Medical Providers:

Medical providers are key to the safe, and timely transport of Medicaid recipients to their facilities. Medical providers are often relied upon to provide verification of patient appointment information, both before and after treatment, to protect against fraud in the Medicaid system. Although we are required to verify only 20% of the trips performed we verify over 50%. Medical providers are also tasked with providing letters of need for patients who require transportation for out-of-county services, a template for such letters and other resources are available on our Resources link on the Medical providers menu.

HIPAA Compliance:

Paratransit Services is an HCA / HIPAA Business Associate. This means we are allowed access to the information required to determine whether or not Medicaid transportation can be provided. This information includes but is not limited to date and time, as well as type and scope of care. Without this information, Medicaid transportation cannot be provided for the Client, and they may not be able to get to their appointment.

Washington Administrative Code (WAC):

Medicaid limits transportation assistance to providers within the clients' local communities. There are, of course, exceptions; most notably, the non availability of providers in the local community and for reasons of continuity of care. It is noteworthy that the definition of continuity of care is strict. Please refer to this link for guidance regarding Non Emergency Medical Transportation outside of the client's' local communities:
